East Sussex

Apart from the physical landmarks such as the Downs and the Weald, East Sussex has a great many landmarks of historical interest. There are castles at Bodiam, Herstmonceux, Lewes and Pevensey; and defence works such as the Martello towers and Eastbourne Redoubt.[12] Battle Abbey, built to commemorate the Battle of Hastings; Bateman’s, home of Rudyard Kipling, Hammerwood Park, one of the first examples of Greek Revival architecture in the UK; and the University of Sussex buildings at Falmer are among interesting buildings. Bexhill on sea is also home to the De La Warr Pavilion. East Sussex also includes two chalk hill figures, being the Litlington White Horse and the Long Man of Wilmington, which are both situated in the Sussex Downs.

SEDLESCOMBE Organic Vineyard

Sedlescombe organic vineyard is an English vineyard located in Robertsbridge, just outside Sedlescombe in East Sussex.

Established in 1979, it is an all organic vineyard. It is one of the few British vineyards to produce red wine.

Book a wine tasting and give them a visit.

Entertainment & Events

As South East England’s official tourism website, it is fantastic to be able to welcome visitors and see everyone enjoying days out, weekend’s away and holidays in the South East once again.  With all restrictions lifting on the 19th July, all of the remaining tourism and entertainment businesses in the South will now be able to open and return to full capacity, which is a big boast for the industry.  We understand that many businesses will be continuing to ask visitors to wear face masks when indoors, so please continue to check the specific websites before visiting and continue to plan ahead.

Charles Palmer Vineyard

Charles Palmer vines were first planted in 2006 specifically with the aim of producing wines of the highest standard. Production is small and meticulous. Every effort is made to ensure only the best grapes are produced and selected according to the family’s exacting standards. The result is a small and exciting collection of vintage wines, each vintage is unique and characterful in its own way.

The Queens Head

Situated in the heart of  the beautiful and idyllic village of Sedlescombe, this 15th Century pub exudes character and charm with its exposed beams and large open fireplaces.

The Carr Taylor Vineyard

The location in the far south eastern corner of the UK allows us to enjoy some of the warmest and driest conditions in the country. The generally cool climate for vines, long growing season and slow ripening into autumn means that our English grapes possess a concentration of delicate aromatic fruit not to be found in more robust wines from warmer climates. As well as producing crisp light wines, the flavours often echo fruits traditionally grown in this area, such as green apple and pear.
